Cholera Attack Haity – 208 Dead
According to CNN, quoting from the Haitian health officials, an epidemic of cholera has claimed the lives of at least 208 people. In addition, 2364 new cases emerged.
A spokesman for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Imogen Wall, reveals there are five new patients in the capital Port-au-Prince last Saturday. They came from out of town and is now placed in a hospital isolation room.
Plague center is in the region north of Port-au-Prince, in the Artibonite and Central Plateau.
Cholera is caused by a bacterial infection of the intestine. The disease is characterized by symptoms of diarrhea, vomiting, and cramps in the legs. According to Center for Disease Control and Prevention USA (CDC). In certain cases, fluid in the body can be depleted quickly, so people are dehydrated and in shock.
Without proper treatment people with cholera could die in just few hours. Cholera usually occurs after people consume unclean food and or water and live near dirty facility sanitation or poor drainage.
